In two days tomorrow will be yesterday

My my, how fleeting time is. It flies, it crawls, it freezes but in the end it always slips right through our grasp. Yep, feeling philosophical today.

No really, its actually been a long week. Today I was leaving work and farted "accidentally" on the way out and I think a lady that has her office by the door heard me! As soon as the door shut I laughed like mad!

Carly and I recently watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog with NPH. The dude is funny. I laughed a lot and for anyone in a silly mood, it could be just the thing.

During meetings I was bored so I started trying to recall how to calculate volumes using integral calculus. I know it may sound nerdy, but I always find a sense of satisfaction when I can look up the equation on line and find that I was correct! Thank you Newton and Leibniz for teaching us all.

VIDEO Time

Sometimes I wonder about the whole blogging thing, I've tried a few time to upload some videos, but it always gets stuck and then stops. I admit though that it is probably a user error. What can I say? I am no computer nerd. Quite the opposite really. But I am proud to admit that just the other day I remembered how to formulate and evaluate an integral to prove the volume of a sphere and some other shapes as well. I miss the good old days of calculus. Don't you? It would have been so cool to grow up durring the time of Newton and Liebniz (sp?).
Anyway, I suppose the videos I've been trying to upload are probably too long. So I will see what I can do to shorten them up. In the meantime...

Work Work Work

Work is right! Work is great and amazing and wonderful and sometimes down right boring! It is also a great blessing to have a job. One of the interns that worked with us last summer came by to check things out and try to get his name on the boss' table. I asked him how the job search was going and he said slow, very slow. I feel fortunate to have a position at this time with Kiewit.

Today was great. We had an estimators training complete with pizza. I love pizza. If I was a dieter and had just one weakness, it would be pizza. Unless, of course it had olives on it. The only downside to the meeting was that I found out we all must present one course in the series of estimator training series we have started. Oh well. I think I will just take treats.

As any good parent I am continually impressed by our son and how much he is learning and doing. I try not to brag too much but I do find it difficult. But it dawned on me recently that the times when I am most impressed, most proud, is when I am simply listening to Apollo. It hit me that I should probably apply that to the rest of you humans out there! I should probably listen a bit more to my coworkers, friends and family. Who knows what I will learn if I can do that? A wise man once said that God gave us two ears and one mouth so that we would listen twice as much as we speak. I think I usually speak about twenty times as much as I listen. And that's not counting the voices in my head! Well wait, what if I listen more to the voices in my head??? Now I'm getting side tracked and picturing myself in a cartoon for some reason. The point is I am trying to learn how to listen more. So, if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to call. I also have two eyes so feel free to e mail. Just send your complaints and worries to www.idontcare.com. Okay thats a joke. See what I mean about the whole listening thing? Here I go again. Getting sidetracked and twirling off into another animated feature. Have you ever seen my collection of Scandinavian credit cards?

I better go before this gets worse.

"What's with Today Today?"

If you can tell me the movie from which this quote comes. You win a prize that will be awarded at an uncertain time, in an unknown fashion and is of course.... unknown.
Moving on....
Neither Carly nor I have written in our blogs in a long time. But today I wanted to share a little good news. I got a raise! Woohoo! I guess its sort of the standard but it came with some perks. Like, how the heck do I get a raise during a recession??? And, "hey Brian, thanks for hanging around". Well I am happy and I am hopeful that things keep going well with this company. We just had our annual district meeting in Prescott Arizona. It was awesome. All expenses included at a beautiful resort. They even had some entertainment including a hypnotist, comedian, music, dancing and plenty of food. They even payed for everyone's flights down! I think we came away from it making money! Thank you Kiewit. And thank you to my mother for watching Apollo while we were away.

Well The super bowl is tomorrow. I'm really torn. On the one hand the Saints, formerly the AINTS, I want them to win just because they haven't yet. On the other, the Colts. I like Manning but they also have a BYU grad on their team. So who do I cheer for???? Obvious!!! Go SAINTS! WHO DAT by 14! That my hope, not prediction. I really think it will be a three point game. I can't wait!

Well I am hungry and we got dinner from The Honey Baked Ham! I look forward to the extra ten pounds!

Wednesday, the awfullest day of the week

Typically I hate Wednesdays, don't you? It's the day where the excitement of a new week has worn off and the weekend is still a ways away. Its similar to mid afternoon where the day starts to catch up to you and all you want to do is take a nap. I think we should sleep through Wednesday. Or at least half of it.
Today, however, shouldn't be too bad. I don't have a lot to do at work so I will be having more fun laughing at those who do have lots to do... until I get roped into helping them. Plus, last night we were all here until 11:30 so it should be a day full of sleep deprived silly people. Or grumpy old farts. Hopefully both so the real fun can take place.
Did you see the sunrise this morning? I know during this time of year we all get depressed because of the inversion and all, but the sunrise was awesome. A couple of stars were still visible and the dark mountains really stood out against the light blue/pink/yellow sky. It was great. It made me think that coming right back to work at 7:00 wasn't too bad.
Have you ever heard of Archimedes? If you haven't, he's known to have coined the term EUREKA! When he discovered the method of measuring the volume of oddly shaped objects by noting the amount of water they displaced. (He discovered this while bathing and was so excited he ran through the streets naked shouting, EUREKA!) So maybe he was a bit eccentric but he was also very smart. He also said one of my favorite all time quotes which is:
"Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world". Just a reminder that no matter how difficult the job, all you need are the right tools.

The Long Road

I have a confession to make to all... I have a strong addiction that I am in no way willing to ever give up. I'm not even going to try. Her name is Carly and I just can never get enough of her! I love that little lady more than anything.

Well, it's getting down to the wire with the I-15 Job we have been chasing. This has led to a lot of long days, nights and weeks. One week I even had 28 hours of overtime. It's great pay, but I miss my little family and my sleep. At this moment it is 8:13 p.m. and alphagraphics is working their buts off printing off our proposals for us. Then we get to assemble them and get them ready to submit to UDOT! Its exciting but I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving week.

Random thought today: it takes Pluto 248 earth years to orbit the sun. That's a long time.

This weekend I am really looking forward to the BYU Airforce game. I think Airforce is better than most think. They took Utah into overtime and lost to TCU by only 3 pts. I think they should be able to give the Cougs a run for their money.

Also, with this blog I am now seriously kicking Carly's butt in our blogging competition. However, we have suspended it since our internet has not been working for the last month. Hopefully after Monday we will have that taken care of.

The Chuck Norris jokes came back to haunt me at work the other day but I really liked the following: "Little Ms. Muffet sat on her tuffet. Until Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked her into a glacier". Yep, my sense of humor is very refined. Anyone else a fan of Elvis? That's not a joke, I really like the song, Surrender.

I better go. I hear my boss.

The Planets

Apollo saying the planets' names, he's been doing this for a while but it was hard to video.
